Executive Director's Message

October, 2008

Dear Friends,
SBA’s National Conference was in Tucson Arizona this year, and it was a wonderful experience for those who were able to attend. You can find the information from the conference on the National website www.spinabifidaassociation.org. You can read over the PowerPoint presentations and maybe find information that is helpful to you and your family. The SBA was unable to tape the sessions this year, so having the information available online is a valuable asset.

The Casino Royale and Texas Hold’em Tournament was held at our new location at Bridgemen’s Hall in Philadelphia. Everyone had a good time and we were able to raise about $5,000. We thank Dee Koellner and Marilyn Lieb for chairing the committee and helping to bring this fundraiser together. Also, we could not have had a successful night without our committee and event volunteers. Thank you for all your time and energy.

On April 27th we had a wonderful turnout at the Philly Fit 5K Walk and Philly Fit BASH. Many participants finished the 5K, and some participated in the Family Fun Run. After the walk we hosted a booth at the BASH, and we were able to reach out to many individuals in the community to spread awareness. We are looking forward to our next 5K and Family Fun Run on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Bucks County Community College and Tyler Park. Click here for details and download the registration form.

The 22nd Annual Golf Classic, held on September 8th at the Yardley Country Club, raised about $20,000! We had many Hole Sponsors and Golfers, and we held a raffle drawing for a five day cruise for two on Carnival Cruise Lines. We want to thank the families that sold the raffle tickets. It is a great way to spread awareness and raise funds. We would not have a Golf Classic without our wonderful committee. So, we want to thank the entire golf committee (Earl and Sharon Patton, Mike and Janice Darab, Mike and Maureen Murray, Tome Reilly, Andrew Wise, Sean Darab, Joe Brogan, and Stuart Greenberg) for all their time and hard work to make the golf outing a great success. Thank you for your dedication and resources that make the Golf Classic a wonderful success for everyone.

Registration forms were sent to all current and former members in early October. If you did not receive yours, please see our NEW website: www.sbadv.org. These forms are key to our success as an organization and are vital to our ability to keep in touch with you, our constituents. Please complete and return your registration form to us by November 15, 2008.

Mark your calendars for October 24th for our Spina Bifida Benefit Bash. We are going to have an incredible night planned with dinner and dancing. We have a live band, so come on out to celebrate Spina Bifida Awareness Month! Click here to read more.

Respectfully Submitted,
Keri Mascaro
Executive Director
